The Sirens of the Deep Blue Sea

After 6 months I am almost done! I plan to have it ready for the Topanga Gallery Studio Tours this weekend. I fall in love with the process of painting a piece, creating a story and developing a relationship with the subject. It is exciting show work too! Enjoy, hope to see you at the tours!

Mermaids of the Deep Blue Sea

This piece is simply inspired by mermaids and the ocean. I created a photo collage from vintage photographs of dancers and a beautiful ocean scene. I graphed the image onto a large canvas.

Layer 1: I did Raw Umber Wash over the drawn image. Then I sculpted the image using a soft cloth by focusing on the spectrum of values.

The next step is to paint the image with a monochromatic palette. I will use raw umber from Old Holland and white.

New Beginnings...

I began this painting in June of 2011. My life has transformed over the past 6 months. With that I have learned to welcome new amazing experiences into my life.... and let go of old beliefs and limits. This image reminds me of both sunrise and sunset. Marking the beginning of something new.....
Happy New Year!
